We are pleased to announce that 2014 was another prosperous year for your cooperative, as is evidenced throughout this year’s annual report. From the finances, the continued fiber expansion, the implementation of a Network Operations Center, the expanded relationship with Lees-McRae College, and our continued community outreach efforts, it is indisputable that SkyLine continues to find ways to “Raise the Bar.” We are devoted to our members and the communities we serve.

Highlights of Operation

Our consolidated net margin for 2014 was a healthy $8,860,982. The balance sheet reflects $235,745,417 in total plant, which comprises an increase of $12,069,440 this past year. Our cash remains strong which allowed the Board of Directors to approve $1.2 million in capital credit refunds to members and estates in 2014. SkyBest Communications experienced a positive net income as well. As has been proven by our history and as our 2014 financial performance indicates, we are committed to sustaining our business for the long haul.

Throughout 2014 you will find various examples of how we have been “Raising the Bar.” Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) technology was deployed throughout our network. This technology enhances our already sophisticated, robust network by improving reliability and further future-proofing the network. We became an affiliate of Codera, which provides an avenue for SkyBest to sell hosted and managed services. We increased our subscribership of multi-dwelling units, such as student housing complexes, in our Boone CLEC area. Our affiliate, Carolina West Wireless, expanded Long Term Evolution (LTE) coverage over much of our service area. LTE enables consumers to access data at much faster speeds than the previous CDMA network.

We take great pride in our state-of-the-art network, but the value we place on customer service is our top priority. This part of our Mission Statement, “Enabled by a culture of excellence in customer service,” is something we take seriously. Our employees care about the community and about the quality of service you receive. They are empowered to make decisions that satisfy the customers’ needs. Every day, we strive to improve.
